A commanding pair of large 19th century dark patinated bronze sculptures after Guillaume Coustou’s iconic “Marly Horse Tamers.” Each figure depicts a dynamic male nude wrestling with a rearing stallion, expertly cast with muscular tension and dramatic movement. The original marble Marly Horses stood at the entrance to Château de Marly and are now housed at the Louvre. These bronzes are signed in the maquette and demonstrate the fine detail and powerful presence associated with French Neoclassical revival sculpture. Ideal for grand interiors or collectors of equestrian or classical statuary.
