A 19th-century Chinese bronze vessel in archaic hu form, with dragon handles and decorative taotie bands.
Share :
A striking Chinese Bronze vessel of archaic hu form, featuring a rounded body adorned with geometric taotie masks and decorative bands in shallow relief. Flanking the neck are two large pierced dragon-form handles, crisply cast with coiled tails and stylised features. The surface displays a rich natural verdigris patina, evoking the character of ancient bronzes from the Shang or Zhou dynasties. Though stylistically inspired by early Chinese ritual bronzework, this example is likely a 20th-century decorative or scholar’s studio piece made in homage to antiquity.
