19th Century Camphorwood British Colonial Campaign Chest
A fine 19th-century British colonial campaign chest, beautifully crafted from solid camphorwood and retaining its original brass campaign fittings. Made for travel and durability, this portable officer’s chest would have accompanied military or naval personnel across the Empire.
The golden camphorwood has developed a deep, rich patina over time and still retains its distinct natural aroma — a testament to the timber’s prized insect-repelling properties. The dovetailed carcass is bound with inset brass corners and flush-mounted campaign handles, all with an aged, unpolished patina.
The interior is clean and dry, ideal for use as a storage chest, blanket box, or even a decorative coffee table. An exceptional example of Anglo-Indian colonial furniture that combines historical value with timeless utility.
